Additional Notes:
The No. 1409 “HERCULES” smooth plane was produced for the low-price market, probably to compete with Stanley’s “FOUR SQUARE” Brand. The finish was left to a minimum, with no polishing and only one layer of japanning. Hardwood was used for the handle and knob, rather than Mahogany.
