The No. 1217 “HERCULES Golden Cutter” block plane was produced for the low-price market. The finish was left to a minimum, with no polishing and only one coat of enamel. Hardwood was used for the handle and knob, rather than Mahogany.
These planes were enameled green and were sometimes referred to as the “John Deere planes”.
