According to David E. Heckel’s “Sargent Planes Identification And Value Guide – Second Edition” (page 36) this plane was made up during World War II, and consists of a #217 body with a #5306/5307 black nitrate finish knuckle joint lever cap. The cutter may or may not have the plane number on it, depending on the particular example. Some planes have also been observed with “No. 217” stamped on the cutters.
This plane was produced as a war emergency item, and was listed in the Limited War Line Catalog.
