Not listed in David E. Heckel’s book “Sargent Planes — Identification and Value Guide” (Second Edition), though at least three examples have been observed. It is not known at this stage as to how the No. 656 differs from the No. 657 – also a skewed rabbet plane.
Most, if not all, wooden planes were made for Sargent by the Sandusky Tool Company of Sandusky, Ohio. The precise dating of the wooden planes sold by Sargent is not known.
