Additional Notes:

This series of bench planes was short lived – lasting only three years before being “re-assigned” with new model numbers. They were essentially Series 400 planes with corrugated bottoms and were given the prefix of “5” to denote a different model number. This number was only a catalog number and it did not appear anywhere on the plane or cutter.

These planes have a thin body casting and a two-piece brass cutter adjustment nut with a steel insert. When first introduced into the Sargent range the No. 5000 series planes cost considerably more than their equivalent-sized No. 400 Series cousins.
