This plane is similar to No. 43 but it has a wide mouth and is designed especially for use as a Floor Scraper. It has a wood bottom which is held in position by four brass screws and the handle is set lower than the handle on No. 43, enabling the user to exert greater force and weight.

Additional Notes:
The No. 44 Scraper Plane came with an East India Mahogany Double Handle from 1922 to 1924 and then was replaced by a Mahogany Double Handle from 1925 to 1943. As stated above the No. 44 had an enlarged mouth and the sides of the body were lowered so as to allow for more pressure to be applied to the cutter. The No. 44 scraper cutter is stamped with the plane number on it.
